Viviana González Moreno

Viviana González Moreno is an environmental lawyer and community advocate with more than 10 years' experience working alongside Afro-Colombian, Indigenous, and peasant communities in Colombia’s Chocó region to defend their territorial rights in the face of extractive activities, including illegal gold mining. She has supported grassroots organisations in strategic litigation and peacebuilding processes, advancing an approach grounded in environmental justice.

Viviana was part of the legal team that successfully secured recognition of the Atrato River as a rights-bearing entity—the first such recognition in Colombia and the third of its kind for a river worldwide. She has also led the coordination of the implementation of Constitutional Court ruling T-622, serving as legal counsel to the Collective of Guardians of the Atrato River.

She is co-founder and Deputy Director of the Socio-Legal Center Siembra.

Through her fellowship, Viviana seeks to strengthen community cohesion and women’s collective leadership in the Atrato River Basin, in a context of armed conflict and environmental degradation.
