Bernadette McAliskey

SCI Mentor

Bernadette is a lifelong human rights and social justice campaigner whose activities have ranged from neighbourhood organising, through to national protest movement and parliamentary representation.

She currently co-ordinates the activities of STEP (South Tyrone Empowerment Programme), established in 1997.

STEP is a rights-based community development organisation based in Dungannon Co. Tyrone that in 2001 rose to the challenge of equitable integration of new migrant workers into the local community.

The STEP approach to building sustainable diverse communities has been recognised as a model of good practice at local and European level and provides leadership to the regional inter-ethnic network Stronger Together supporting all those working to eradicate racism and racial inequality in N. Ireland.
