Immigration and the role of migrants in social change activism

Event

Northern Ireland has a strong history of community activism and peacebuilding work.

However, many members of Northern Ireland’s migrant community struggle to access these existing initiatives and spaces.

This webinar will focus on welcoming migrant communities into existing peacebuilding and community spaces and ensuring their voices are heard.

Úna Boyd, the Immigration Project Coordinator at the Committee on the Administration of Justice, will provide an overview of the immigration and asylum system in Northern Ireland, aimed at helping organisations gain practical knowledge of the system and a better understanding of what members of migrant communities experience when coming to live here.

We will also hear from Sipho Sibanda,. a co-ordinator at the Participation & the Practice of Rights (PPR). It will also feature Athi Silevu of the Housing4All campaign group which is supported by PPR. They will share their experiences as community activists in Northern Ireland.
