Marissa McMahon

SCI Mentee

Marissa lives and works in Belfast as a project organiser on a joint project, between Participation and Practice of Rights (PPR) and the Simon Community NI focussing on homelessness.

She has been an activist with PPR since 2008, working on the ‘Equality Can’t Wait’ campaign which aims to tackle religious inequality in housing in the north of Ireland. She became involved when she and her young daughter were facing eviction.

Marissa has remained involved in the campaign, lobbying at both EU and UN level regarding catholic inequality in housing, particularly within North Belfast. An SCI fellowship has allowed Marissa to look at housing inequalities in both South Africa and USA.

Marissa is a firm believer that lasting change can only come when people use the power of their own voice to secure the change they need.
