Steven McCaffery

Steven is responsible for SCI's communications strategy and output, but also supports its wider work for change, including a focus on the role of the media in deeply divided societies.

He is an award winning journalist with 20 years experience covering news, politics, and the Irish peace process.

An investigative reporter in Northern Ireland since the 1990s, he went on to hold senior editor posts in the UK and the Republic of Ireland before joining SCI in 2018.

As editor of investigative news website The Detail he was named UK online editor of the year. He was previously deputy editor & political editor for the Press Association covering the island of Ireland. Prior to that he was news editor at The Irish News daily newspaper.

Steven contributed to the anthology Reporting the Troubles. He was also named Northern Ireland Feature Writer of the Year and led multi-award winning news teams, building a reputation for campaigning journalism which championed the importance of human rights and equality.
